Celebration

What is the “big idea” for this lesson?

  • We have traveled on a SEL journey learning many resilience tools including: mindfulness, kindness to self and others, as well as seeing problems as a chance to learn something (last video lesson).

  • When our emotions get too big we can choose to care for ourselves in a way that makes us or those around us feel GOOD!

Reflection questions:

  1. What resilience tools have you been using?
(Hint: Mindfulness, kindness, problem solving, thinking/feeling brain, or character strengths)

  2. What makes you feel good?

  3. What helps others you care about feel good?

Celebration Activity

We have traveled on a SEL journey learning many resilience tools including: mindfulness, kindness towards others, focus on character strengths, understanding our feelings, and seeing problems as a chance to learn something (last video lesson). One way of taking care of ourselves and to be resilient is to remember and focus on what is good around us and sharing that with others. We can choose to care for ourselves in a way that makes us and those around us feel GOOD!

Brainstorm:

  1. What makes you feel good?

  2. What helps others you care about feel good?

  3. What are ways that you can focus on what is going well?  What words or phrases can you use for yourself as reminders of what is going well OR what words or phrases can be encouraging for you to keep at things and be RESILIENT?

Materials:

  • Paper

  • Pencil or pen and your favorite drawing supplies (markers, crayons, pencils, etc.)

Directions:

  1. Decide on your phrase that you want to use to make a positive reminder sign.  You can choose to use the entire page or a part of it.

  2. Draw/write out your phrase and remember that you can include other pictures/drawings that you want to have as part of your positive message/reminder.

  3. Add as much color and designs as you would like to complete your positive message/reminder poster.

  4. Decide on a spot that you can hang your positive message/reminder poster to share with others and for you to see too!
