Sixth Annual Education Conference
Connections Between Achievement, Neuroscience, and Stress
Monday, May 20, 2019
Sobrato Center for Nonprofits, Shoreway Conference Room, Redwood City
Description
Stress and trauma levels are rising in schools for students, families, and staff due to a changing society, increased academic expectations, family/friend issues, and normal child development. Schools are seeing an increased need for a variety of services for everyone to support learning in existing environments. Please join educational leaders, community leaders, mental health professionals, and non-profits for a powerful day of learning focused on connected social, emotional, academic, and behavioral aspects of learning. Dr. Ryan Matlow will be addressing the neurobiological and developmental impact that stress and trauma have, and how to foster resilience and growth for individuals and systems. Dr. Jacquelyn Ollison will explore ways in which we can support educators, and improve teacher retention by addressing teachers' compassion fatigue. A panel of district- and county-level administrators will share their insights into systems of support for the entire school community, focused on challenges and successes to building a system.
